Coast Salish artist, Joe Jack is a Status Band Member of the Cowichan Tribes. He was born and raised on the Cowichan Reserve where his parents lived. His father was the late Don Elliott from Deer Home Reserve in Glenora and his mother is Adeline Jack originally from the Quamichan Reserve. Joe carries two First Nation names.Joe Jack initially started carving as a young man on the Cowichan Native Reserve. He worked with other established artists to improve his skills. Much of the inspiration for his pieces comes from his Salish ancestry and the legends he learned as a child.
